Hello everyone, Welcome to my new blog. Before that, I would like to thank each one of you for making my first blog successful. Honestly, this new blog will definitely change our lives.
However, I would like everyone to watch this important video regarding the climate change in the given link below before reading my blog.
What is the video all about?
This video is all about fighting for our environmental future against fossil fuels which was led by the Sunrise Movement. The Sunrise Movement was set up by six young people who were deeply concerned about their future and the effects of climate change. Now they have thousands of supporters, and this number is growing rapidly. With just under $1 million raised, the Sunrise Movement has become one of the boldest voices in the national climate debate. This movement was founded by Varshini Prakash.
What did we understand in this video?
This video shows how recent college graduates are forgoing the entry-level professional jobs their peers get to throw themselves into climate activism full-time raising against their voices for climate change with small “Green New Deal” posters and a huge “ Our Time to Rise” banner adorned around the white walls. This has pushed administrators to divest assets and holdings from fossil fuel companies. This movement has pulled out the crowd to raise their voices and was led by using civil disobedience that would prompt mass arrests, they hope to force the British government to change its approach to climate change and declare a state of emergency.
What were your thoughts about this movement?
After watching this video, this has led to me an absolute shock as honestly I have never known about this movement before the pandemic which happened in March 2019. Even in India, people might have not known about this movement. As the adverse effects of the climate crisis intensify, many believe governments around the world are responding too slowly. This might lead us into a global temperature rise below two degrees will be met unless there is immediate action taken to prevent further warming. We must put into action urgent climate policy reform before we reach a point of no return as there is no such thing called Planet B. As we all have known about Greta Thunberg as an environmental activist who has raised her voice against climate change. You know what is the shocking truth is that she was mocked publicly by President Trump on Twitter and Ellen asked the 16-year-old whether she would ever meet with him to try to change his opinion on the topic which was happened in 2019. The teen also discussed inspiring millions of students around the world to organize and attend climate strikes, and how her Asperger’s has been a gift while being an outspoken activist. She also travelled through sail ship to attend a UN Global Warming Conference as she refused to fly there because of the carbon footprint in an aero plane. This was an amazing initiative thought of her. You can check her interview with Ellen Show in this link below.
“We didn’t ask to have the responsibility of protecting human civilization on our shoulders. But we’re stepping up to the plate.” - Wen Stephenson. One thing that shocked me in that sunrise movement video is the "Blood of the Children". This activity was performed by the protesters by pouring out the fake blood on the road and stairways indicating the threat to our families, children's and people's future of our environment. After watching this video made me absolute shocking and gruesome. It felt like seeing a real blood pouring out on the ground even though it is fake. Check out the images below.
What are the steps and precautions needed to take for our environmental future?
Here are some ways in which you can take control of your future, and protect our environment and ecosystems:
1. Start your own initiative or volunteer with environmental organizations like NGOs, clean up groups, fundraising events, etc.
2. Reduce/Recycle Papers more often helps reduce landfill pollution, raw materials and fossil fuel consumption, and generates a circular economy.
3. Saving Resources like water, electricity can make adaptations so that you can reduce the demand for energy production and thereby preserve fossil fuel resources. While public and private entities plan the transition to sustainable alternatives, by doing our bit at homes and offices, we can reduce fossil fuel dependency.
4. Buying sustainable products like paper bags, reusable water bottles, eco-friendly toys, etc. is not only cheaper, but also much better for the environment.
5. Decrease meat & dairy consumption like chickens and cows as deforestation required to house animals like cows and chickens are damaging habitats and natural ecosystems, where hundreds of species depend on each other for survival. Thus, the only way we can prevent more damage is by being responsible, and eating less meat and dairy products.
6. Only buy when you need it because buying more products due to tempting offers or discounts will actually cost us and the environment more. Whether it's groceries, clothes, accessories or home products, by purchasing only what you need, you reduce the amount of waste generated, and thus pollution. As natural resources are limited, our excessive consumption can be counter-productive, and undermine our planet's biodiversity.
These steps might be a small initiative but it leads us to a larger savings for our environment. Let's stand together for a greener and peaceful world! Here are some images of the student protest against climate change below.
