Vegan is a New Normal

Updated: Nov 18, 2021

Fabricating the New World where all the living beings are respected and taken care of in Future. Hello everyone, Welcome to my new blog. Today, I am going to share something new and interesting which might change the future of fast and luxury fashion in the world.

Many of us know that wool is usually taken from the Sheep in farm. But this wool which I am going to share with you all is not taken from the Sheep but it is taken from the unique plant based version. How is it possible? It can’t be true? Is it fake? Is it a joke? I know these many such questions might pop out in your head but it is actually true. Isn’t it amazing right? Yes, this amazing fashion brand is the one who had started this amazing initiative to launch this fabric which is none other than FABORG by Gowri Shankar.

FABORG

FABORG

FABORG is a sustainable vegan fashion brand launched by Gowri Shankar which is currently located near Auroville in Tamil Nadu. Their mission is to bring back the knowledge of calotropis which had been lost recently. In order to keep its information safe and eternal, FABORG has patented the whole circular processing of calotropis, interlinking Weganool, Arka & Natural Dyes. The company will live up to this pioneer plant and cut no corners while expanding an economically viable business nationwide.

Their impact is to revive and empower dryland & farming communities, produce it using zero waste materials and reduce negative carbon footprint. The most amazing thing is what we are waiting for is none other than the Weganool. It is a plant-based wool alternative that is created without a drop of chemicals. The yarn is spun from carefully extracted calotropis stem and pod fibers that are blended with 70% of organic rain-fed cotton. The hollowness in the soft calotropis fiber creates air pockets within the cloth, making it lightweight and adding thermal-regulating properties. It is here to raise the sustainability standards in the textile industry at every level. This includes farming, extraction of fibers, different stages of fabric making, after processing, designing, and most importantly disposal. There are many end-products that can be created with Weganool such as scarves, shirts, jackets, sweaters, etc.

After creating Weganool, it became clear that no fabric is fully sustainable unless it is dyed naturally. In the search to find the perfect fit for the fabric, FABORG was thrown into the colorful world of natural dyes such as Kaddukai which is widely used as medicine and lends antimicrobial properties. They use four different types of dying techniques such as Hank Yarn dyeing, Panel dyeing, Garment dyeing and Fiber/Mélange Yarn dyeing.

Another interesting thing is the Arka. It is a concentrated residue of calotropis, mixed with various ayurvedic plants. This herbal extract repels pests, boosts the growth and immunity of plants, and helps farmers save money while becoming organic. With this Arka, farmers spend 10 times less per acre compared to commercial pesticides. It is rich in Alkaloids, naturally occurring chemical compounds, which has various benefits like it recovers almost dead plants to life, acts as a sweetener for kids and has anti-viral, antifungal & antibacterial properties. Isn’t it amazing right?

This calotropis is not just a weed, it is a plant that is truly worthy of being offered to Shiva. It is also known as Green Gold of India. Thus, the priority isn’t just about looking for someone to help us, but placing more faith in the farmers to support the project. We shall collaborate with the farmers and brands around the globe and raise the standards of sustainable textile manufacturing practices in future.
