Every Stitch I make, Every Yarn I break, Every Knot I create, I CROCHET from my Heart. Hello everyone, Welcome to my new blog. Today I am going to share something new, unique and colourful which is handcrafted with love for all. During my childhood days, it reminds me of my grandma doing so many handcrafted works for my lunch bags and now she is no more. This particular amazing young designer literally reminds me my golden days. She is one of the top 13 sustainable fashion designers in the world which is none other than Katie Jones.
Katie Jones is a UK-based knitwear eco-friendly designer who incorporates playful aesthetics with serious ethics. She puts sustainability into practice by embracing her grandmother’s vision of making something beautiful from nothing. The ethical designer ensures that her designs are addressing the issues of landfill and over-consumerism. Moreover, the brand also creates experiences that encourage social and environmental change. The brand has pivoted a lot since it first started but the heart of it is still the same- Fun, colourful, hand crocheted pieces, embracing an old craft and taking a new twist on it!
Her designs are playful aesthetics which are based on the "Waste Not" approach. Her production house turns the apparel and materials into colored textures that are fun while being wearable in all kinds of settings. Based on her approach, she uses unclaimed materials from apparel manufacturers. The sustainable designer and her team turn them into wearable artisanal collections that embrace color, texture, and fun.
Her colors and textures are quite bright and playful experiences that encourage social and environmental change. Her designs include Sweaters, Crop Tops, Blankets, Jumpers, Hats, Collars, Socks, Pouches, etc. which was inspired by the Surrealist artist Frida Kahlo, blooming flowers from nature and various geometric shapes like circles within the squares, triangles, diamonds, zig-zag lines, wavy lines, spiral lines, stripes, stars, etc.
She encourages 100% Recycled Packaging in every collection delivered to the consumers in building her revolution, she needed a visual identity that was slightly cheeky yet still reminiscent in order to feel natural. As far as the technology, she doesn’t encourage any sorts of it as her designs are handcrafted with love and passion using CROCHET. It really inspired me to see her amazing collections which makes me amused that it is still handcrafted even today.
Her designs has been stocked in luxury stores worldwide and featured on the pages of global fashion and craft publications such as Vogue Dazed and Confused, AnOther, The Telegraph, The Guardian, Style bubble, Mollie Makes, Inside Crochet, Selvedge Magazine, and Simply Crochet. In 2017, She launched her Make-It-Yourself Collection which puts the task of constructing the garment in the hands of the customer, joining in with the love of the make and making luxury fashion accessible. She wanted to share this experience with as many people that wanted to join in with her and that’s where the idea was to turn this brand into a MIY label. She was also featured in the Redress Design Awards, V&A’s Fashioned from Nature Exhibition and the Sustainable Thinking Exhibition held at the Museo Salvatore Ferragamo in Florence, as well as being a Judge on Channel 4’s Kirstie's Handmade Christmas.
Thus, Environmental safety is our responsibility as individuals and the movement to promote sustainable fashion can also start on a personal level. We must think about how one can contribute to the scene set in front of them and bring about a revolution. Come join with love of colourful craft and enter our world where you can make something amazing for yourself, consciously crafted by you!
